Big Earthquake Hits Tokyo
Started by JoeInJpn, who was present in Tokyo DisneySea when the earthquake struck, this is the first and longest of our TDR threads. The first few pages reads like a narrative as the news comes in. Also contributing to the thread are accounts from DuffyDaisuki and ichigopara.

Disneyland
Today something a little different. But first a confession, I collect the Disney/Pixar Cars diecast line. What started as just a set of the original twelve diecasts released upon the film's debut has grown into an almost complete collection of the first movie's characters, including the holy grail of the line - a Speedway of the South set.

As with any product line, they've been hard at work "extending" the brand, notably with the Mater CarToons on the Disney Channel. Then the Cars2 film will generate another line when it opens in a few weeks, as will Cars Land when it opens in DCA next year.

Now it appears that there's another Cars line "extension" that will be in the mix this Summer, as the parks and resorts merchandise departments also get into the act. A sticker set included in a just stocked coloring package has the characters visiting a Cars-universe Disneyland, and as I understand it, a few of them are going to be made as diecasts.

What I especially like is that they even get the different Anaheim/Orlando Monorails right. One design not on the color sheet is shown below:

There will be word shortly about which of the above designs made it into production, and there may be a merchandise event. Hopefully we'll see the Jungle Cruise and Tram sets, as well as the Monorails manufactured.

We'll get back to our normal question answering next week.

3/15: Kevin Yee – Four Decades
Hopefully you haven’t got book fatigue from all my recent announcements. As you recall, a few months ago I released Walt Disney World Hidden History (an update to 101 Things You Never Knew About Walt Disney World), and more recently, I announced the 2010 Walt Disney World Earbook, a compilation for the historical record of all the additions, removals, and changes to the parks in the calendar year, complete with full-color photos.

3/15: Orlando Update – Construction, Flowers, Universal and More
Today, we feature Disney World and the parks and attractions of Orlando, Florida. There's a lot of construction noise going on in the Orlando area, between the Haunted Mansion project, Legoland and Busch Gardens Tampa, its amazing that any of the guests can enjoy their experiences. That aside, the team still managed to find the wonderful things that we tend to overlook or walk right past. Plus, we'll take a look at Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and more.

3/14: Dateline Disneyland – Mermaid’s Exposed, Hotel Handiwork, and New Downtown Disney Stores
It's a week-'o-wonders at Disneyland this week as Dateline Disneyland explores the news for you! This week, Andy takes a look at the bounty of changes as we enter Spring Break at Disneyland. Critter Country is back open without too many changes, as Splash Mountain and Hungry Bear are still closed. We hop over to Tomorrowland where there's a new Disney Vacation Club flying saucer - it looks great, but it's too bad it's just for DVC. As we hop across the entry plaza, we update the progress on Disney California Adventure's pan-pacific inspired entrance, go purple on the Disney Junior theater, and we have the weekly Cars Land construction progress. On the beautiful side, The Little Mermaid building has come from under wraps, and it looks gorgeous! Then we take a gander at the various projects being worked on at the Disneyland Hotel. Finally, find out about two new stores coming into Downtown Disney. As always, it's an update of fun as Dateline Disneyland brings you the latest from the Disneyland Resort!

3/12: Al Lutz – Tokyo Update
Reader Jonathan, who was kind enough to fill us in yesterday on his experience at Tokyo DisneySea during the quake, sent back an update last night with a few photos.

3/12: Weekend Update: Dali Museum, Odd San Francisco, Snow Day and Australian Zoo
Launch your weekend in style with weekly trip around the globe in search of attractions and entertainment.  Our regular readers may remember our series of reports on wild and wacky Orlando that we titled "Oddlando". This week we visit San Francisco and bring you back a report that we are calling Odd-Frisco.  The craziness continues on a beautiful Canadian snow day. Then we journey to an Australian zoo. Last but not least, we add a little culture to our diet at the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Keep your eyes peeled for the Disney references in this week's installment of the eclectic electric Weekend Update!

3/10: In The Parks – 100 Free Tickets To Give Away, Disneyland News and Photos, DCA Construction, Passport Round Up and More
Spring is almost here and the Southern California parks are in high gear to get things in shape for big crowds. Disneyland has just reopened Critter Country (except Splash Mountain), Star Tours is officially reopening on June 3rd (though it will likely soft open sooner than that), and Disney California Adventure is nearing completion on the highly anticipated Little Mermaid attraction. Meanwhile, Six Flags Magic Mountain is set to open Superman: Escape from Krypton and we take you on a special preview of the revamped ride. To help you prepare for your Spring and Summer of fun, we are featuring the variety of Season and Annual Passport offers throughout the Southern California parks. We'd love to hear from you which passes will make it into your wallet this year. And we are thrilled to give away up to 100 FREE tickets to a special performance of Bubble Fest at the Discovery Science Center! All this and much more in today's huge theme park update!
