Disney Legend Ollie Johnston dies at 95
Starting with a bit of sad news this week, Disney legend Ollie Johnston died this week at the age of 95. Ollie created such classic animated characters as Thumper, Mr. Smee and the three Fairies from Sleeping Beauty after receiving his start with Disney in 1935 working on classic shorts such as Mickey's Garden and The Tortoise and the Hare. Ollie retired from Walt Disney in 1978 and went on to co-author four books with fellow Disney legend Frank Thomas. Ollie's passing also means the loss of all the 'Nine Old Men', a core group of animators who helped create some of Disney's most famous works.

Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012
In a bit of news that may not have been possible without the great Ollie Johnston, Disney announced it's animated release schedule through 2012. Highlights include, the traditional animated release The Princess And The Frog. From PIXAR WALL*E, Up, Re-Releases of Toy Story 1 and 2 (in Disney Digital 3D), Toy Story 3 (In 3D), Newt and a sequel to Cars in 2012. Walt Disney Feature animation is also releasing computer animated movies Rapunzel and King of the Elves. There are no Direct to DVD 'Cheapquels' planned other than the Tinker Bell series that is reportedly getting some much needed oversight by John Lasseter.

Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) Closing forever on May 21st.
Finally, this week Disney announced the closure of Virtual Magic Kingdom, a virtual park that has been running since 2005. The 'Kingdom' was initially planned as part of the 50th anniversary celebration for Disneyland, but due to its popularity was given a longer than expected life-span. Other Disney online games such as Pirates of the Caribbean Online, ToonTown online, Club Penguin and the upcoming Fairies and Cars Online virtual worlds are still operating.

Looking forward. Looking back. There was so much to discuss this week. Al Lutz blew us away with big news on the future of the Parks. And Yesterland is there to show us the terrific things that are no more. Add your thoughts, memories, and imaginations here... PEZZ

4/8: Hello, Goodbye
Where to start? DCA? The Hotel? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Adventureland Bottleneck? The Main Street Electrical Parade? So many items discussed in Al Lutz’s latest update, it will surely keep us speculating until... his next update! Jump in!

4/11: Disney-MGM Studios: The Beginning
Werner Weiss accounts the inauspicious beginning of this formerly modest park. Take a look at the map when there were more attractions NOT there than there were there... Did that make sense? Anyway, see some other remembrances of the fledgling park and newer aerial photos of the 'hidden' Mickey.

VMK Heading for Yesterland?
Lastly, the mirthful PEZZ Lightyear (hey, that's me!) takes a somewhat more serious pause to ask if Virtual Magic Kingdom will have a place in Yesterland once VMK disappears into digital oblivion next month. Does a virtual theme park belong in a virtual scrapbook? Share your opinions here.

We have beautiful flowers, animals and wine tasting all just in time for the Spring season! Stop in and enjoy the views of some of the great things MiceChat members enjoy outside of Disney.- TicTocDragon
