Disneyland

Every year I have five wishes I like to make, in regards to changes that should be considered at Disneyland or the Walt Disney Company. This year I've used questions you've sent in as a basis for each. So, in reverse order, here they are:

5. My first wish involves kids and their budgets, and not forgetting about them. When I was younger, and our family visited Disneyland, our parents always gave us a few dollars in spending money so we could buy something on our own as a keepsake or a souvenir. The park had a broader selection back in those days, and I took a lot of care in selecting my purchase because it was my decision. I remember buying character glassware for two dollars, candy sticks for as low as a dime or nickel, and of course the 5-cent postcards. Nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find anything under $5, with many impulse items in the $10 and up range. It would be nice to see a broader line of products at a "allowance" price point at the parks.

It's so big!

4. While there have been a few screenings of the 1956 Disneyland USA Cinemascope short at the park and for D23 events, they have only been presented from a video source. My second wish it that the park itself schedule a screening on property or a nearby properly equipped theater to see this travelogue on a big screen in the superior quality film format. (Throw in the Fantasyland Theater Mousketeer 3-D Jamboree film as a bonus too.)

3. Continuing that previous thought, I would also like to see a Disneyland Blu-Ray release, that not only would include the film above as a part of it, but would also be a "vault" type of collection with anniversary shows, films utilized in long gone attractions, press sizzle reels, etc. Considering that the company did quite well with its 50th music releases, (the Disneyland 50th CD box set sales surprised many), this should be a no-brainer.

2. Bring back a new technologically advanced Electrical Parade to Main Street USA. It belongs there, not at DCA.

And my number one wish? Come back next week and I'll let you know what it is. -Al
