Hello Dear Readers … our Pressing Matters today include - More Alice (is there ever really enough?), Who doesn’t like to play with bubbles? Hilary Duff is an author? And, a window on Main Street.

Since Alice In Wonderland was the movie to see this past weekend I thought I’d bring you a little something Alice again. My reasoning being that if you’ve seen the movie, you may be wanting more, more, more. More Alice, that is.

I came across a site that will personalize the original Lewis Carroll story to your taste. Instead of Alice, I could have Sue In Wonderland. And while that title doesn’t sound quite as good to me as the original, the consummate Alice fan could have a really grand time with this. From the website:

This fun book kit helps you make your own version of everyone’s fave classic Alice in Wonderland. It’s easy to use: just register online, personalize each detail from the characters to the title, and even create your own dedication page! Your tailor-made novel will then be sent to you within 30 days. Makes a great gift. Kit comes with a welcome letter, cast list, registration booklet, a personalized notebook, & information about the author! Approx. 6.5”x1”x9” The cost is $34.

On a late night a loooong time ago, I remember a group of people, tiny jars of bubbles in hand, descending upon Fantasyland, boarding the Dumbo attraction. As the flying pachyderms took to the air, masses of bubbles began to stream into the sky and in one fell swoop Dumbo had turned into a giant bubble machine. It was magical. But then again bubbles I think, are inherently magical.

Bubbles are once again set to descend upon Orange County in a spot not far from Disneyland. The Discovery Science Center will be hosting their annual Bubblefest from March 27th to April 11th. From the website:

Bubblefest XIV: Float your way to Discovery Science Center for Orange County's most astounding spring break bubble spectacular! It's good, clean fun for the entire family as Bubble Scientist Fan Yang brings his Gazillion Bubble Show to Southern California. Hands-on bubble activities demonstrate a bubble's science and math principles (such as surface tension, elasticity, air pressure, molecular properties, and geometric properties), while Fan Yang's Gazillion Bubble Show puts those theories to the ultimate test.

Leading the excitement is sixteen-time Guinness Book World Record Holder and Bubble Scientist, Fan Yang. Yang has been performing his amazing "Gazillion Bubble Show" in New York City. Yang has been featured on TV networks around the globe. Discovery Science Center is proud to be his only West coast engagement this year. World-renowned for his unique and stunning artistry, Yang performs four bubble shows daily at BubbleFest featuring a bubble carousel, bubbles within bubbles, smoking bubbles, spinning bubbles, bouncing bubbles and bubbles in all shapes and sizes.

Included with general admission to Discovery Science Center are: bubble learning stations and the Center's more than 100 permanent hands-on exhibits. At the bubble learning stations, bubble-blowers can also explore the secrets and sciences behind making the biggest and best bubbles including surface tension, elasticity, air pressure, molecular properties and geometric properties. Visitors may conduct experiments to determine how to make the biggest bubble, how to have their bubble last the longest and how to touch the inside of a bubble.

Also offered during BubbleFest is a unique experience - "Me in a Bubble" - where guests can have their photo taken inside a giant soap bubble as proof it can be done! (Additional fee required.) Basic Admission to the museum is as follows: Adults -$12.95 (+ $7.00 for Bubblefest = $19.95), Kids (3-17)-$9.95 (+ $7.00 for Bubblefest = $16.95). Members of the museum get in free – there is a $6.00 charge to attend Bubblefest - Or … you can purchase a Bubble Super ticket  (Adults - $25.45, Kids - $23.45) which includes: • General Admission • Bubblefest Show • 4-D Movie • DinoQuest Game • Free Taco Bell Beverage

When I was a kid I liked nothing better than to curl up with a good Nancy Drew mystery reading about the teenaged sleuth’s adventures driving around River Heights in her sporty blue roadster solving crimes. Could it be that Hilary Duff is set to be the next Carolyn Keene? From the press release:

Hilary Duff, film and television star, recording artist, clothing designer, and philanthropist, has signed a world rights deal with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers to publish her first-ever young adult fiction series, it was announced today. The first novel in the multiple-book series, entitled Elixir, publishes in hardcover in October 2010.

Duff's Elixir combines the overpowering allure of a dangerous love triangle with thrilling international adventure. Clea Raymond is a talented young photojournalist who has spent her entire life in the spotlight as the daughter of a Washington politician and a renowned surgeon. Haunted by the strange appearance of a mysterious young man in her photographs, Clea travels the globe with her best friends, Rayna and Ben, in a race against time to unravel a centuries-old mystery that could unlock the key to her soulmate's true identity and the secret of her father's disappearance--and ultimately save all their lives.

Hilary Duff’s career began on the popular Disney Channel sitcom, Lizzie McGuire. She has since worked on a number of films and TV series, and most recently appeared in a guest-starring role on Gossip Girl. She has also released three multiplatinum albums as well as a clothing line for DKNY and a bestselling fragrance. In humanitarian work Hilary is actively involved with the charity Blessings in a Backpack, a program that provides quality nourishment for children who wouldn't otherwise receive it. She has served on the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation and was named Youth Ambassador of Bogota, Colombia.

Elixir is her first book.

My, where does she find the time?

I recently had the pleasure of spending an evening listening to Richard Sherman reminisce about working for Walt Disney, all the while playing of few his famous tunes as he sat at a baby grand piano. I found myself imagining the times the two brothers sat in an office, at a piano, pitching a tune for Walt. I closed my eyes and pretended I was Walt hearing the music as he heard it, for the very first time. It was rather special to be able to do that.

The music of the Sherman brothers is so much a part of our society, it seems to me that a person who has never heard their music (or even the tiniest snippet of a Sherman brother song), must be a rare person indeed.

Sherman Brother songs graced many Disneyland attractions

A window on Main Street for the Sherman brothers is an honor long overdue for these two. Today, they are finally getting their due. From Mark Eades at the Orange County Register:

If you’ve ever visited Disneyland and been on “it’s a small world” you’ve heard their song. The composers of the song that has entertained and sometimes frustrated many park-goers for more than 40 years are getting a window on Main Street U.S.A.
