Are you ready for this week’s Pressing Matters Dear Readers? Here are today’s topics; Alice and her Wild West Show • Gather together your Muchness • There’s a summit for donuts? • Mathletes • Align your donors, practice your walking, and mark your calendars • Chocolates, handbags, and AP specials - Oh my! • Day One Disneyland

Ever wonder what it was like to sit in a theatre watching a movie back in the days of the silent film? Here’s your chance to experience that, and one of the films is Walt Disney’s Alice’s Wild West Show. Here's the details:

Sunday, May 23, 2010 at UCLA’s Royce Hall, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra proudly presents Buster Keaton’s hilarious silent comedy, The Cameraman (1928). The movie follows Buster Keaton as he sets out to impress a pretty office worker at MGM Newsreels by trading in his tintype operation for a movie camera to compete with the big boys. The LACO performs the world premiere of Timothy Brock’s original musical score, courtesy of the Rigler-Deutsch Foundation. In addition, we are happy to announce the showing of Walt Disney’s Alice’s Wild West Show (1924). This short black and white silent film combines live action with animation as Alice puts on a show for the neighborhood kids of her wild west adventures. Everything goes well until the local bully, Tubby O’Brien, shows up…

Remember that crazy dance of happiness the Mad Hatter performed at the end of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland? Think you can dance like that? Well, get your Futterwacken on, there’s going to be a contest – with prizes! From the press release:

In celebration of Frabjous Day and the upcoming Blu-ray & DVD release of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland on June 1st, Walt Disney Studios is asking America to "Show Us Your Best Futterwacken!" The contest challenges ALICE fans to submit their best interpretation of the Futterwacken dance and add their own original twists, turns and dance moves. So start gathering your muchness and go completely Gallymoggers as you Futterwacken vigorously! The more creative your dance moves, the better your chance to win!

This event is a bit in the future, but it sounds like fun, but then again … anything involving donuts sounds like fun:

We are less than two months out from the Donut Summit, and, oh boy, are we getting excited. Or at least I am getting excited because, well, DONUTS! If you haven’t already marked your calendars in indelible ink, the Donut Summit is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 13th at 1pm. The festivities will take place in Griffith Park, at the picnic area near the Vermont entrance. (We will have a big, donutty sign, so we’ll be easy to find!)
